Start Fighting Your Acne Today

As a teenager having acne is just part of growing up. It is inconvenient and can make us embarrassed but we can take comfort in knowing that everyone else at school is dealing with the same thing. When we grow up we try to convince ourselves that our years of breakouts are over. Even random and small breakouts can freak us out when we are grown up because we thought we were over all of that nonsense! Waking up to find some spots or bumps sends us right back into our teenage angst. When you are an adult those few zits and pimples usually come with quite a bit of facial pain. It does not matter what your age is, the tips in this article should help you out.

Wash your face gently. Don’t scrub! When you wash your face too vigorously, you can leave it raw and vulnerable. Putting too much pressure on your skin when you wash your face can injure the sensitive skin you are trying to keep clean and can leave it more damaged than anything else. Do you really want to have a face full of scars from scrubbing? It is important that you learn how to wash your face gently but firmly. This sounds harder than it actually is. A bright red face is not the goal! Looking a little flushed is okay, but bright red is not. A healthy sheen is a good goal, but don’t’ make yourself look like a shiny beet.
Make an appointment with a dermatologist. There are some adults out there whose acne is so bad they need to seek professional help to get it under control. Sometimes you need to ask a doctor for help–especially if nothing is helping to ease your acne and breakouts. Your dermatologist will be able to help you figure out a skin care routine that works and might end up giving you a prescription for extra strength cleansers and acne fighting products. You might be one of those people whose acne is caused by other medical conditions and a dermatologist will be able to properly diagnose this. Some acne issues are the result of genetics or other health conditions. Your doctor will help you figure out how to clear up your skin safely and get it healthy again.

Learn to relax once in a while! Stress is one of the major causes of most adult acne breakouts. Try to stay calm and give yourself space to relax at least once a day. Have someone teach you some techniques for relaxation that you can use to keep your stress in check. A change in lifestyle might be worth exploring if your daily life is filled to the brim with extremely stressful situations. In addition to being happier and better balanced, your acne might go away as well!
Believe it or not the basic forms of acne prevention are also the best: cleanse your face regularly and don’t pick at anything that pops up. Other breakouts will require you to use something a little bit more powerful than a basic cleanser. The good news is that, whether you are in your teens, twenties or sixties–there are plenty of ways to help you keep the acne at bay!
